WHY
CHOOSE FISHING IN ALASKA WITH THE GAMFISHER?
Private Charters
We specialize in private multiple day Alaska fishing charters
& lodging, where you are the only group of anglers at our Alaska fishing
lodge, & on our fishing boats.
Fish Alaska salmon & halibut with the same fishing guide!
Captain Mel Erickson owner of Alaskan Gamefisher since 1989
will personally be your Alaska fishing guide for both your Kenai River
salmon fishing, and on your saltwater halibut charters on Cook Inlet,
at Anchor Point near Homer. Captain Mel Erickson is one of very few Alaska
fishing guides that personally guide for both Kenai River Salmon, &
Alaska Halibut. This means you will fish both salmon & halibut with
the same fishing guide.
Flexibility
If you book a private fishing charter for your Alaska fishing
adventure you will have the flexibility to change your daily fishing schedule
between the Kenai River salmon, & the Anchor Point saltwater salmon,
& halibut fishery. Fishing conditions on the Kenai Peninsula change
all the time & flexibility is the key to a successful Alaska fishing
trip. This means if the fishing or weather is bad in one area you can
change to another area at the last moment, No other Alaska fishing charter
can offer you that flexibility.
Our vessels
Our Kenai River charter boat is one of the newest, &
most comfortable salmon fishing boats on the Kenai River. It is outfitted
with adjustable, high back & soft padded Bentley seats with arm rests.
The vessel is wider & more spacious than most other Kenai River guide
boats. Our Alaska Halibut charter boat the “GAMEFISHER” is
a 30 foot by 10 foot wide aluminum vessel with a larger fishing deck than
other boats giving you plenty of room to fish from. Our halibut boat is
equipped with a full cabin with toilet, heater, & has 8 sealed air
chambers for safety, if a chamber gets punctured only that chamber fills
with water instead of the entire boat.
Left Handed Reels
The only Alaska charter boat with Left handed fishing reels
available. There are no other charter boats on the Kenai Peninsula that
offer these reels for left handed anglers. Our salmon & halibut fishing
tackle is the best with 2 speed international reels & G-Loomis rods
in 15-30 pound class.
The Accommodations
Our Alaska fishing lodge is not small cabins, but a very
large private 3 bedroom, 3 bath home with complete kitchen, King size
beds, BBQ grill, freezer, Along with rubber boots, coolers, & fishing
rods for you to use while not on fishing charters.
Full Day Alaska fishing Trips
We do not fish double half day trips like most other Alaska
fishing guides on the Kenai Peninsula. Both our salmon & halibut trips
are full, single trip days unless other wise requested. That means we
don’t have a set time we have to be in at to take another group
of anglers out that day.
Boat Mobility
Our Boats are on trailers so we can move up & down the
Kenai River wherever the salmon fishing is better. For Halibut fishing
we can move where the weather is better if needed. Many times when the
wind blows at Anchor Point & Deep Creek we can travel to Homer for
halibut fishing in Kachemak Bay.
NO Fuel Restrictions
We do not put distance limits on how far our boats can
travel each day to the fishing grounds, we go where the best fishing is
regardless of distance, with rising fuel costs many Deep Creek, &
Homer halibut fishing charters have put limits on how far their boats
can travel.
Alaska Salmon Fishing – They Don’t Call Them King Salmon for Nothing!
Our gallery of photos on this website attests to the incredible size of the Salmon you’ll find in these parts of Alaska. Trophy salmon of up to 90 pounds have been pulled from the waters of Kenai Peninsula. Big fish are the norm.
For saltwater King Salmon, the best time of year to fish is in May. The Kenai River King Salmon run hard in June and July offering anglers an excellent selection and big fun. You’ll find plenty of Silver Salmon in the Kenai River in August, and Saltwater Salmon/Halibut trips are scheduled in August too. On even numbered years, the pink salmon will also be prevalent in August.
Captain Erickson is an expert on the movement of salmon in these parts, and his daily fishing reports can be relied upon to ensure a good day’s catch.
