2006 Fishing Review

Last Fishing Report Of The Season!

September 5th
We have done our last trip of the 2006 Alaska fishing season. After a season of wet, & windy weather, we ended on the labor day weekend with very nice weather & great fishing, lots of good medium size halibut with averagesin the 30-40 pound range, caught limits in less than 2hours most days, saw several pods of large killer whales, & the silver salmon fishing remained good all month of August with limits most days, Now the focus is to relax a bit after a long hard summer of fishing & do a little Moose hunting, when I get back look at the website to see our monster Bulls.

I enjoyed fishing with all of our guests this past summer & hope to see you all in 2007 for another fantastic year of Alaska fishing.
Remember to book your trips as early as possible to get your 1st choices of dates. I also look forward to seeing some of you down in Costa Rica for some hot & sunny sailfish action.

Pre Season Fishing Forecast by Alaska Department of Fish & Game.

Kenai River Fishing Report
The early run of Kenai river king Salmon is predicted to be about average with a total run of about 15,000 fish entering the river from mid May to the end of June. Once Fish & Game determines that at least 9,000 fish are in the river, the use of bait will be allowed. In 2005 bait opened on June 17th.

The late run of Kenai river king salmon is expected to be a little better than average with 35,000-40,000 fish expected to return. Bait will be allowed the entire month of July. The season may be extended from the July 31st closure date into August if we exceed those numbers.

The Kenai river late run of sockeye salmon is expected to be very poor with only 1.8 million fish forecasted to return. If this holds true severe restrictions will be placed on the Commercial fishery on Cook Inlet. This will result in an extremely large number of King salmon making it into the river & some explosive king salmon fishing.

The August silver salmon fishery should be on fire from start to finish with the restrictions on gill nets in the Cook Inlet. Also this being an even numbered year there will be millions of pinks returning with a daily limit of 6 salmon, fire up the smoker!

Deep Creek, Anchor Point, & Homer Halibut Fishing Report
Halibut fishing in the Cook Inlet saltwater will as always be spectacular all summer with daily limits of 2 fish caught every day. King salmon, both spawners, & feeders will be migrating thru the area in large numbers in May. Silver & pink salmon in August will be migrating thru.
